Allan Martin, music educator from Oxford, presently teaches clarinet, saxophone and flute at the Renaissance Center. Mr. Martin has taught privately for over 35 years. In the public schools of Ansonia, Naugatuck, and the Amity Region, he taught instrumental, vocal and general music as well as talented and gifted students and adult education. Additionally, he has taught at the Summer Music Institute Festival in Waterbury and was the former owner and director of the Oxford Music School.
Mr. Martin continues as a freelance performer on clarinet, saxophone and flute. In the past he has performed music of many styles with various ensembles including The Stamford Symphony, Danbury Symphony, Southern Connecticut Symphonic Pops, The Fulton American Band, Waterbury Municipal Band, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Andy Nichols Orchestra and the Sonny Carroll Orchestra. He has also played with the theater orchestras of the Candlewood Theater and the Downtown Cabaret in Bridgeport. He is the former conductor of the Community Wind Ensemble of Western Connecticut.
Mr. Martin holds a B.S. and M.S. in music education from Western Connecticut State University. He has completed Doctoral studies at New York University with additional graduate studies at the Hartt School, University of Hartford.
Dr. Martin has been on the Renaissance Center faculty since 1998.
