SUMMER GROUP PROGRAMS

The Summer Session will run this year from Tuesday, July 6, through Thursday, August 26. This will allow eight weeks of private lessons, or a nice opportunity to try a different approach to music instruction, perhaps with an ensemble, or singing, or learning some music theory. We are offering SUMMER SPECIAL pricing, because it is likely that you would miss a class due to important family vacations, etc.

African Drumming Workshop -- Unlike the drop-in circle offered during the school year, this is a seven-week class open to both adults and older children. Beginners are welcome, and drums are available to borrow. Experience the joyful community that emerges when we drum together!

Dates: July 6 – August 17, 2009, 7 lessons

Broadway Performance – To sing & act within a theatrical scene means a performer must create a character both vocally and physically. This group workshop for boys & girls ages 6 - 9 will focus on learning and performing these skills & techniques. The course will result in a live performance of selected songs from “Annie, Jr” for family and friends, at the end of the session. All voices and ability levels are welcome.
Time: Wednesdays, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Dates: July 7 - August 25, 2010, 7 lessons and a performance
Cost: $120, including materials
Instructor: Kenneth Lundquist, Jr., assisted by Caroline Strange

Cabaret Performance – In the spirit of the popular television series “GLEE,” we believe that everyone has the ability to sing if they want to work at it. We invite anyone, 10 years old through high school, to select songs that are appropriate to their level of experience, and through the direction and coaching offered by the instructor, build the necessary vocal and physical character to perform the songs. The course will result in a live performance by each student, or group of students, for an audience of family and friends, at the end of the session.
Time: Wednesdays, 7:30 – 8:45 p.m.
Dates: July 7 - August 25, 2010, 7 lessons and a performance
Cost: $120, including materials
Instructor: Kenneth Lundquist, Jr.

Introduction to Jazz Improvisation -- Join Dr. Martin for this 4-week workshop; you need not have any experience in jazz improvisation, and you may play on almost any instrument. Please just let us know what instrument(s) you play when you sign up.

Guitar Ensemble – Explore and enjoy playing music as a group, creating an ensemble of guitar enthusiasts, ages 10 through adult. You will need your own acoustic guitar, and have the ability to read music and play the notes and chords.

Woodwind Ensemble -- Have you been playing your instrument for at least two years? Then it’s time to take your playing to a new level, and have some extra fun with it. Any student of clarinet, saxophone, or flute can join an ensemble of musicians playing the same, or related, instruments, to enhance their private lessons. Al Martin will conduct a class which allows time for students to play individually (in a master class fashion), and as a group to create new and beautiful sounds together.
